Benefits of feeding Pro-Bac-C…

Calf scours are a problem that every calf raiser is faced with on a regular basis. Your calves are the future of your business, and it is important to maximize performance from your young stock. Scours has an extremely large effect on the performance and profitability of your livestock operation.

Pro-Bac-C was developed to aid in the control of coccidiosis and also provides nutritional support in the presence of bacterial scours. Typically, the first organism that enters a newborn calf's small intestine is E-coli. E-coli, when coupled with stress, can create an environment for pathogens to proliferate and thrive.

Pro-Bac-C should be fed along with the first feeding of colostrum. Leveraging the integrity of the small intestine, as soon as possible after birth, creates an environment that is unfavorable for pathogens to reproduce. Over 90% of nutrient absorption occurs within the small intestine, which is why it is extremely beneficial to maintain a healthy environment to allow nutrient absorption to occur.

It is recommended that Pro-Bac-C be used in the milk replacer for the first 30 days at the rate of 1/8 ounce per feeding wice daily.

Pathogens require the following to reproduce…

1) Temperature of 100° (F)

2) Moisture

3) a pH above 7.0

Pro-Bac-C contains a highly stabilized microbial (lactobacillus) system that produces an enormous amount of lactic acid (by-product of their growth) leveraging the pH of the small intestine to be slightly acidic (around 6.8) potentially minimizing the reproduction of pathogens (coliforms) through a lower pH environment.

Lasalocid (Bovatec) is FDA cleared for the prevention of coccidiosis.

Cryptosporedia, e-coli and salmonella are often associated and/or con-current counterparts.

Feeding Levels:

(Small measure enclosed approximates 1/8 oz)

(Cup measure enclosed approximates 6 oz)

DAIRY CALVES:

Add Pro-Bac-C Medicated to the milk replacer liquid at the rate of 1/8 ounce twice daily for a 110 lb (50 kg) calf to provide 50 mg of lasalocid. Increase or decrease proportionately based on calf size to provide 1 mg lasalocid per kg of calf body weight. Do not use in combination with other sources of lasalocid.

Caution:

The safety of lasalocid in unapproved species has not been established; Feeding undiluted, mixing errors or inadequate mixing (recirculation or agitation of liquid supplements) resulting in excessive concentrations of lasalocid could be fatal. Do not allow horses or other equines access to lasalocid as ingestion may be fatal.
