Medi-Darts
are tools for giving intramuscular or subcutaneous injections to livestock
without the need to restrain the animal. Medi-Dart's unique needle design holds
the dart in the animal until the medication is delivered. Once
the injection is complete the needle is pushed out of the animal by the
patented system, giving low stress to your animals.
Due to safety of people and livestock, we do
not accept returns of the Crossbow or Extension syringe.
Medi-Dart introduces the

existing products realize fast and low stress treatment of their livestock

Medi-Dart Crossbow has been on the market since 1998, with very positive feedback.
We feel it is a health management system that a producer cannot afford to be
without.
The Medi-Dart Crossbow enables
producers to accurately treat animals at a distance of 15 to 45 feet.
Notice the valve cannot open fully if the plunger is drawn back to the 10cc
mark. Therefore you cannot give injections less than 10cc.
The Medi-Dart Crossbow kit
comes with 2 needles. If your cattle have experienced hoof rot, pink
eye, pneumonia, retained placenta, or worms,
then the Medi-Dart Crossbow kit is a must.

New improvements to the kit
are:
CB kits now come with 2
needles, one #5 & one #6, both IM. The crossbow kit also includes two
plastic wingnuts (MDCBWN & MDEWN). The MDCBWN has 3/8" wings and
the MDEWN has 1/2" wings.
The #6 was made because there
was a need for more grip. This needle works well for doctoring yearlings or
sick calves in the fall. A #6 needle needs to be paired with the half-moon
pushrod (MDHPR) and a wingnut. Currently we are only selling the #6 needle in
our kits and as a MDAKCBW or MDAKEW (formerly the MDAK needle/valve assembly).
It needs to work together with this pushrod & wingnut to properly
eject.
In our own R&D we have
found the #5 & #6 needles, along with the MDHPR & wingnut to be very
effective and are receiving lots of positive feedback from others who have used
this new system..
Kit Includes:
- Medi-Dart Crossbow, 2 complete darts (30cc),
1 practice end, 2 x IM needles (#5 and new #6), Castor oil lubricant,
and Air pump
Medi-Dart uses a
simple bicycle pump to create air pressure which injects the medication and
upon completion of the injection pushes the ejector loop ahead, forcing the
needle out of the animal.
Estimated needle usage:
If you are using
needles with a crossbow …. you can get an average of 30 uses out of the
needle.
If you are using
needles with an extension syringe…you can get an average of 50 uses out of the
needle.
You can resharpen
needles with a file and get more use out of them.
Usage estimates are based
on correct use of the needles, it excludes misses such as hitting trees.
*** You can still use the old
style needles with the new Kit, but you must purchase the short connecting nut.
Medi Dart has been around for
27 years and we also have customers who are satisfied with how the tool works
and so we are continuing to sell the #2,3 & 4 IM needles for them if they
prefer. Some people don’t like change.
Currently only have #5’s
available in sub-q needles.
Difference between the two
sizes of new wing nuts:
MDCBWN 1/2 ” long wings we feel
is better for cows and bulls that are not that fast. It provides a little extra
leverage and keeps the dart up a bit more for great ejection.
MDEWN 3/8” long wings we feel
is better for younger cattle that are very fast when you shoot them. The
shorter wings provide a bit less leverage and lets the dart stay in the animal
better.
Another reason for this
difference is people use different drugs. Some are smaller doses, so the dart
doesn't have to hang on for very long.
Some people want to give a bigger dose so then the dart must hang on longer.
