The prolapse retainer "T" by Beaver State Plastics can be used successfully to control vaginal prolapse in ewes. The retainer does not interfere with lambing and can be left in as long as needed. Two weeks to a month should be minimum. 3ct
The ewe can be held by someone or tied with a halter. Lift up the prolapse and let her urinate as the prolapse usually interferes with urination. If possible wash the prolapse and lubricate it well. It can then be pushed back into place gently. Once it is in place, hold the prolapse in and insert the well lubricated paddle of the retainer in as close to the rectum as possible. Tie the strings forward and above the vulva to tufts of wool. Be sure it is fairly tight. It is usually a good idea to administer an antibiotic when the prolapse is in place.
Ewes with prolapses should be culled as it will generally occur again next year.
